Biography

The Office of the State Board of Education welcomes Aylee Schaefer as the Transition Coordinator for Blind and Visually Impaired.

Aylee comes to us from Stephen F. Austin State University where she was faculty in the Teacher of Students with Visual Impairments (TVI) and Orientation and Mobility (O & M) Preparation Programs. Aylee taught classes such as braille and orientation and mobility methods; supervised student teachers; coordinated the Project VISION grant in the Northwest; and collaborated with stakeholders in the community.

Aylee also has experience with direct instruction as a Teacher of Students who are Blind or Visually Impaired and as a Certified Orientation and Mobility Specialist. Aylee has been working with people who are blind or visually impaired for more than 16 years in a variety of capacities. She has had the opportunity to work with people of all ages and with a range of needs.

Aylee earned her Bachelor of Science degree in Human Rehabilitative Services and Master of Arts degree in Severe Needs Special Education: Vision and Orientation and Mobility from the University of Northern Colorado. She is currently working on her Ph. D with the University of Idaho, Boise in Education: Adult Education/Organizational Leadership.

Aylee and her husband, Paul, have been Idaho residents for nearly 10 years. They will be celebrating their 10th anniversary this year in their true fashion – in the mountains.
