Average Scale Score

• In 2003, Idaho fourth graders had a mathematics average scale score (235) that was not significantly different from the nation (234).

• In 2003, Idaho fourth graders scored higher than the national average in the one strand (geometry), but was not different in four strands (numbers, measurement, algebra, and data analysis).

• In 2003, Idaho eighth graders had a mathematics average scale score (280) that was higher than the nation (276). 

• In 2005, Idaho eighth graders scored higher than the nation in four mathematics strands (numbers, measurement, algebra, and data analysis, but was not different from the nation in one strand (geometry).

Percent At or Above Basic (NAEP Basic ≈ ISAT Proficient)

• In 2003, 80 percent of Idaho fourth graders scored at or above Basic in mathematics, which was higher than the nation (76 percent).

• In 2003, 73 percent of Idaho eighth graders scored at or above Basic in mathematics, which was higher than the nation (67 percent).
