Average Scale Score

• In 2005, Idaho fourth graders had a mathematics average scale score (242) that was higher than the nation (237).

• In 2005, Idaho fourth graders scored higher than the national average in all five mathematics strands.

• In 2005, Idaho eighth graders had a mathematics average scale score (281) that was higher than the nation (278).

• In 2005, Idaho eighth graders scored higher than the nation in three mathematics strands (numbers, measurement, and geometry), but was not different from the nation in two strands (algebra, and data analysis).

Percent At or Above Basic (NAEP Basic ≈ ISAT Proficient)

• In 2005, 86 percent of Idaho fourth graders scored at or above Basic in mathematics, which was higher than their national peers (79 percent).
• In 2005, 76 percent of Idaho eighth graders scored at or above Basic in mathematics, which was higher than their national peers (68 percent).
