• In 2003, Idaho fourth graders had a reading average scale score (218) that was not significantly different from the nation (217).

• In 2003, Idaho eighth graders had a reading average scale score (264) that was higher than the nation (261).

• In 2003, Idaho fourth graders both scored higher than the nation on reading for literary experience but were not significantly different from the nation on reading for information.

• In 2003, 64 percent of Idaho fourth graders scored at or above Basic in reading, which was not significantly different from the nation (62 percent).
