  Average Scale Score

• In 2000, Idaho fourth graders had a science average scale score (153) that was higher than the nation (148).

• In 2000, Idaho eighth graders had a science average scale score (159) that was higher than the nation (149).

• In 2000, Idaho fourth and eighth graders both scored higher than the nation on all three science subscales: life science, earth science, and physical science

 Percent At or Above Basic  (NAEP Basic ≈ ISAT Proficient)

• In 2000, 72 percent of Idaho fourth graders scored at or above Basic in science, which was higher than the nation (64 percent).

• In 2000, 73 percent of Idaho eighth graders scored at or above Basic in science, which was higher than the nation (59 percent).
