Deaf/Blind Advisory Council*

The Advisory Council (the Council) is comprised of 22 summit participants. The Council was formed as an outcome of one of the recommendations of the summit. The primary purpose of the Council will be to provide advice in the development of the summit recommendations. The recommendations will be developed by the Office of the State Board of Education Transition Coordinator and the Idaho School for the Deaf and the Blind (ISDB).

The Council appointments were made by the State Board of Education. The Council is chaired by the Transition Coordinator and supported by the Superintendent of ISDB. ISDB provides support to the council including: interpreting for the Deaf/hard of hearing, clerical functions, accessible materials, video-conferencing and assistive technology for enhanced efficiency.

Responsibilities of Advisory Council

  • Provide researched advice and feedback to the State Board of Education, the Transition Coordinator, and the administration of the Idaho School for the Deaf and the Blind.
  • To incorporate relevant findings and recommendations into the current system for immediate benefit.
  • Carry out directives of the State Board of Education as needed.

*Full title is "Advisory Council for the Education of Students who are Blind or Visually Impaired or Deaf or Hard of Hearing, Including those with Additional Disabilities or Deafblindness."
