(Boise). Calling him a leader of unquestioned commitment, Idaho State Board of Education President Richard Westerberg today publicly reaffirmed his support and that of the Board for Idaho State University President Arthur Vailas. At a special meeting today, the Board passed a motion saying "The Idaho State Board of Education hereby affirms its support for and confidence in President Arthur Vailas in leading the affairs of Idaho State University."

"ISU's record of improvement is typified by the recent designation by the Carnegie Foundation as a research university of High Status. It's impressive," said Westerberg. "President Vailas has led numerous successful efforts that have improved the status and effectiveness of the university, and moved it forward." Vailas became the 12th president of Idaho State University on July 1, 2006 and is the second longest current serving college/university president in Idaho.

The Idaho State Board of Education will hold its next meeting, Wednesday-Thursday, February 16-17, 2011 in Boise on the campus of Boise State University.
