(Boise). Citing a strong desire to have another western school join Boise State University in any possible move to the Big East Conference, the Idaho State Board of Education gave approval to a request by Boise State University to explore and accept, if offered, an invitation to the Big East Conference.

Boise State President Dr. Bob Kustra presented to the Board a number of scenarios, all of which are predicated upon another western team joining BSU in a move to the Big East. “This is a time when we are experiencing unprecedented movement in college athletics,” said Board President Richard Westerberg. “We understand your need and desire to explore the best options for your football program. We need to make sure that all sports are considered for the best possible fit for them as well.”

President Kustra also noted that some of the Bronco athletic teams already compete in different conferences such as the wrestling program which is part of the PAC-12.

The approval is exclusively for a possible move to the Big East conference in football and other “best options” for all other sports as determined by the President of Boise State University. Any other possible move to any other conference in football at any other time would still need Board approval.
