Mandatory Student Health Insurance Information

Requiring health insurance as a condition of enrollment is in the best interests of students, the university and the local community. The large number of students without health insurance - currently estimated to be as high as 25 percent of a student body - jeopardizes access to non-emergency health care, even for students with personal health insurance. There is also a financial benefit for both students and the institution when unexpected health care costs are covered by insurance. Unexpected expenses are one of the leading causes for students to withdraw from college.

Applicable sections of the Governing Policies and Procedures of the State Board of Education relating to mandatory student health insurance.

Section III.A. Coverage - Health insurance is only mandatory for students who are full-fee paying students at Boise State University, Eastern Idaho Technical College, Idaho State University, Lewis-Clark State College and the University of Idaho.

Section III.P. Students - A portion of Section P. details the Board's policy on mandatory student health insurance.
