Highlights from the State Board of Education June 26-27, 2003 Meeting

The State Board of Education held a special meeting Wednesday, July 16, 2003 to follow up on the charter school issues discussed at their June meeting in Moscow. Two items in particular required timely decisions. Under consideration were the Nampa Charter II School's ability to make an appeal to the Board at its August meeting and to address funding issues presented by the Idaho Virtual Academy.

The Board took testimony from all involved parties and heard reports from its staff regarding Idaho State Code and Board policy. It was decided that Nampa Charter II can make its appeal to the Board at its August meeting. Board member Rod Lewis made the motion to allow the Nampa Charter II appeal to be presented to the Board in August. The motion passed seven to one.

On the issue of funding for Idaho Virtual Academy the Board decided to have the Charter School Subcommittee review the laws and meet with those involved to come up with solutions to be presented at the August 14th and 15th meeting in Idaho Falls.
