STATE BOARD MEETINGS SCHEDULED IN BOISE INCLUDES JFAC PRESENTATIONS TO LEGISLATURE

BOISE - The Idaho State Board of Education will discuss its new committee focusing on the needs of minority students and set student fees for the 2004 to 2005 school year at its meeting January 26 and January 27.

The Board will:

· Receive an update on the Idaho Student Information Management System (ISIMS) authorized by the 2003 Legislature with initial funding from the Albertson's Foundation.

· Discuss the Limited English Proficient Committee tasked with evaluating current programs and looking at research-based techniques to bridge the learning gaps of minority students.

· Select an academic indicator for complying with the "No Child Left Behind" as it relates to "annual yearly progress."

· Discussion and possible fee setting for Idaho's college and universities for the 2004-2005 school year.

The Board will also hear presentations from:

· The Office Performance and Evaluation will present their findings on K-12 pupil transportation and higher education residency.

· Idaho State University President Richard Bowen will make a presentation relating to ISU programs at its Boise center.
