BOISE - The Idaho State Board of Education has repealed temporary charter school rules it adopted in November, to allow the Legislature to address the issue.
"The Board adopted the charter school rules in a good faith effort to address issues not specified in the law. Issues like on-line and multi-district charter schools could not have been foreseen under the current law and the Board acted to help these schools continue," State Board of Education Charter Subcommittee member Laird Stone said. "The rules we adopted in November were temporary and would have expired the end of the legislative session. The Board cannot adequately address some of these unclear areas in rule, and by repealing the charter school rules now, it gives the Legislature time to consider new charter legislation."
The vote was unanimous, with Board Members Blake Hall and Paul Agidius not in attendance when the vote was taken.
