KEMPTHORNE ANNOUNCES APPOINTMENTS TO STATE BOARD OF EDUCATION

(BOISE) Governor Dirk Kempthorne today appointed Coeur d'Alene resident Sue Thilo to the Idaho State Board of Education. Governor Kempthorne also reappointed Pocatello resident Karen McGee to a second term on the board.

Thilo, who is currently the President of the North Idaho College Foundation and is leading the capital campaign effort to raise $2 million for NIC's new Health and Sciences Building, brings nearly 20 years of volunteer experience in many community efforts in north Idaho. She is also a past member of the North Idaho College Board of Trustees.

"Sue's involvement in education issues makes her a natural fit for the State Board of Education," Kempthorne said. "Her breadth of experience, personal demeanor, and dedication to issues important to her will make her invaluable in Idaho's efforts to give our children the best education possible."

Thilo currently serves on the Board of the Idaho Youth Ranch, TESH, Inc - a non-profit organization in Coeur d'Alene that provides programs and services that offer independent living opportunities for individuals with disabilities. She has been active in many ways with School District 271, including her service on the Board of the Excel Foundation that offers grants to public schools. She has also been involved with the CDA Area Chamber of Commerce, Junior Achievement and the United Way.

McGee, who will be serving her second term on the State Board of Education, was first appointed by Governor Kempthorne in March 1999. In addition to her duties on the State Board, McGee also currently chairs the Governor's Workforce Development Council, and formerly chaired the Governor's Welfare Reform Committee. McGee was also a member of the Pocatello City Council for 14 years.
