STATE BOARD HIRES NEW CHIEF ACADEMIC OFFICER

BOISE - The State Board of Education is pleased to announce Dr. Marilyn Davis of Portland, Oregon, will serve as the Board’s Chief Academic Officer.

Davis was the top candidate from a pool of more than 30 applicants from across the country. Following the Board’s approval at its October meeting, Davis will begin work full-time November 1.

“Marilyn’s leadership abilities and extensive experience will help the Board continue to promote higher education,” said Gary Stivers, executive director for the State Board of Education. “The Board has instituted many forward thinking policies including the 8-year plan and clarifying each university’s unique role and missions. Dr. Davis will play a critical role implementing these plans as well as advising the Board on issues such as dual high school and college enrollment and program development.”

Davis has strong ties to Idaho and received her Bachelor of Arts in home economics from Idaho State University. After graduating from ISU, Davis taught middle and high school students in Idaho and Oregon. Davis received both her master’s in vocational education administration and her Ed.D in community college leadership development from Oregon State University.

Her extensive teaching and administrative experience includes: teaching and administration at Umpqua Community College, Lane Community College, Central Oregon Community College and Portland Community College, and experience as administrator and adjunct faculty at Oregon State University. She also served as director of vocational program operations for the Oregon Department of Education and as a site evaluator for the Northwest Commission on Colleges and Universities.

Davis was the Chief Academic Officer/Dean of Instruction for the last six years at Portland Community College. While at the college, she also worked as the Dean of Academic Services.
