BOISE -- The Idaho State Board of Education will hold its January meeting Monday, January 24 in the J.R. Williams Building in Boise. The State Board meeting begins at 12 p.m, and will be held in the East Conference Room. The Board will also hold an executive session beginning at 11 a.m. in the Basement Conference Room in the J.R. Prior to the meeting, at 8 a.m., State Board of Education President Rod Lewis will present the annual report from the State Board to the Joint Finance and Appropriations Committee. After Lewis’ presentation, Gary Stivers, the Executive Director, will also report to JFAC. A list of Monday’s Board agenda highlights is included below:

Teacher Mentoring Report: The Committee on Mentoring will present their report Monday on the state of mentoring in Idaho and will include examples of the best practices of mentoring in Idaho and throughout the country.

Report from the Office of Performance Evaluations on Public School Technology Initiatives: In March of 2004, the Joint Legislative Oversight Committee asked the Office of Performance Evaluations to conduct an evaluation of K-12 technology initiatives. This is the fourth evaluation in a series of reports that were based on education topics brought to the Joint Legislative Oversight Committee in 2003 by Majority and Minority Leadership.

Boise State University Capitol Village - Remodel Project: The Board will look at a request from Boise State University for approval to finish out 8,770 square feet in two buildings in the Capitol Village area of the Boise campus. The space will be utilized to house offices that are currently located in the academic core of campus.

Boise State University Bronco Stadium - Feasibility Study: At the June 2004 Board Meeting, Boise State University staff discussed future plans for athletic facilities. They also notified the Board that an outside firm would be engaged in a feasibility study for these various projects. University staff will present the Board with the findings of the feasibility study and discuss future steps and plans for pursuing the identified projects.

Lewis Clark State College - Residence Hall: The Board will hear discussion on the needs for additional living space for student residents attending Lewis Clark State College. Currently, the College has two traditional residence halls located on campus housing a total of 170 students. The College has a high occupancy rate (virtually 100% at the beginning of each semester) and carries a waiting list of approximately 70 students.

Legislation to Amend Idaho Code Section 33-3717, Relating to Tuition at State Institutions: The Board will discuss proposed legislation that would eliminate the prohibition of charging tuition for full-time resident students attending Boise State University, Idaho State University, and Lewis Clark State College.
