Boise - Idaho State University President Richard Bowen and the State Board of Education jointly announced today Dr. Bowen’s plans to retire in June 2006.
“Dr. Bowen has served Idaho State University admirably for well over 20 years,” said Rod Lewis, President of the State Board of Education. “Under his leadership the University has made great strides in all programs, most notably in the health professions arena. We look forward as a Board to honoring Dr. Bowen during this next year for his many accomplishments.”
Bowen will receive President Emeritus status, a sabbatical beginning in June 2006, and become a faculty member at ISU after completing his sabbatical.
“Connie and I have had an extraordinary experience serving the students and faculty at Idaho State University. We’d like to thank ISU and the southeast Idaho community who welcomed us to the area and have supported us throughout the last 21 years,” said Dr. Bowen.
In answer to concerns expressed earlier regarding the impact of Dr. Bowen’s announcement on ISU’s roles and missions, President Lewis commented, “The State Board of Education continues to endorse fully Idaho State University’s existing roles and missions including their mission in the health professions. Not only has this support been enumerated verbally, but is spelled out in Board approved policy adopted last year. Our support for ISU’s health science mission is unwavering and is irrespective of university leadership.”
The Board anticipates the announcement of a presidential search committee in the coming weeks. The presidential search process should take between six to 12 months.
