Moscow - The State Board of Education will hold its upcoming meeting June 16 and June 17, at the University of Idaho campus in Moscow, Idaho.
The Board will begin its meetings at 8 a.m. at the Whitewater/Clearwater Room at the UI Commons Building. The Board will hold an executive session Wednesday starting at 3 p.m. at the Best Western University Inn.
Highlights of the agenda include:
Limited English Proficient Subcommittee Report (LEP): In January 2004, the State Board of Education created an LEP Subcommittee to evaluate LEP student performance including methodologies used to teach students and LEP programs in the state. The Committee identified gaps, evaluated deficiencies and developed a set of recommendations to help ensure LEP students in Idaho achieve academically. The Board will review the final report.
Teacher Mentoring Update: As required by the recent legislation, the Board will appoint members of a teaching mentoring committee to look at state and national best practices, develop pilot projects and conduct research on the cost and effectiveness of teacher mentoring.
Student Health Insurance: The Board will consider the college and university’s student health insurance plans.
Collegiate Athletic Reports: In accordance with Board policy, the Board will review the FY 2006 intercollegiate athletic operating budgets for Boise State University, University of Idaho, Idaho State University and Lewis-Clark State College.
Boise State University: The University is requesting approval for capital repairs including a new roof on the student union building. The Board will also review a contract for television broadcast rights for BSU athletics awarded to KTVB Channel 7 in Boise.
Lewis-Clark State College: LCSC will ask the Board for permission to purchase property located at 1004 4th Street in Lewiston. The property will be used as rental housing and for parking.
Idaho State University: The Board will be asked to officially approve Dr. Robert Wharton as the Vice-President for Academic Affairs.
University of Idaho: President Tim White will present the annual UI progress report. The Board will also consider renewing the contracts for the head women’s basketball coach and head golf coach.
