LEWISTON- The State Board of Education is pleased to announce four Idaho schools have been named Distinguished Schools and 68 schools are being recognized for Additional Yearly Growth.
Awards were based on spring 2004 and 2005 Idaho Standards Achievement Tests (ISAT) results and are required under "No Child Left Behind" legislation. To be named a Distinguished School, a school was in the top five percent of schools that closed an achievement gap between specific groups of students. This year, the Distinguished Schools for 2005 showed a reduction in the gap between the economically disadvantaged and non-economically disadvantaged subgroups and Hispanic and non-Hispanic students.
To be eligible for the Additional Yearly Growth Award, a school must have increased the percent of proficient or advanced students by at least 10 percent in either reading or math in any student subgroup. A school may receive an AYG Award in several categories. The Board is also pleased to announce that 10 Idaho schools are receiving the AYG Award in the same subgroup for the second year in a row.

"These awards illustrate that many schools are making tremendous gains in closing the achievement gap at every level and in several groups.
