BOISE - The names of four finalists vying to become the next president of Idaho State University will be released Tuesday, January 3, announced Karen McGee, Chair of the ISU Presidential Search Advisory Committee.
"This is an exciting time for Idaho State University as well as Southeast Idaho," said McGee. "I appreciate the work of the Advisory Committee who spent countless hours combing through 60 applicants and interviewing semi-finalists. We look forward to the finalists coming to Idaho and meeting the ISU community and the ISU community getting to know the next leader of the university."
Each of the candidates will visit ISU campuses in Pocatello, Twin Falls, and Boise. The candidates will meet with faculty and staff, alumni, campus groups, and there will be opportunities for the public to meet the candidates. Candidates will begin the visits on January 11 and end on January 25. A detailed schedule will be forthcoming.
The ISU Presidential Search Advisory Committee, comprised of representatives of the faculty, administration, staff, students, alumni, foundation, community leaders, Board of Regents, the Idaho Legislature, and other stakeholders of the University, is responsible for recruiting and screening applicants, and performing preliminary reference checks. The Committee is dedicated to the University and its role in Idaho higher education. The Committee focused its search on candidates who are outstanding leaders in the higher education arena. After the on-campus visits, the most qualified candidates will be forwarded to the State Board of Education, who will ultimately make the decision as to which candidate is hired for the position. The announcement of a new president for Idaho State University is expected in February.
The search for a new president began in the summer of 2005 after former ISU President Richard Bowen announced his retirement. In October, former ISU Vice President for Academic Affairs, Dr. Michael Gallagher was named interim president of the institution.
