BOISE -- The Idaho State Board of Education has unveiled a new on-line scholarship application process for Idaho high school seniors.
The on-line process allows students to quickly apply for all scholarships in one application utilizing the internet. Students can apply for the Robert Lee Promise Category A Scholarship, Robert Byrd Honors Scholarship, and Governor's Challenge Scholarship on the Board's website. The deadline for scholarship applications is February 14, 2006. The scholarship deadline has been extended because of the new application process. In the future, the deadline will be in January.
"Students can now quickly apply for Idaho scholarships with the click of a button," said Dana Kelly, Student Affairs Programs Manager for the State Board of Education. "The on-line process automatically inserts information such as ACT tests scores without the hassle of gathering the data via snail-mail. We look forward to students using this new and improved process."
The Robert R. Lee Promise Category A Scholarship provides up to $3,000 per year, is renewable annually and is available for a limited number of qualified students pursuing either academic or professional-technical programs. To be eligible for the Idaho Promise Category A Scholarship an individual must be a resident of Idaho , be a current graduating senior of an Idaho high school, and enroll in the fall 2006 semester as a full-time student at an eligible Idaho college or university. Applicants for academic programs must be in the top 10 percent of their graduating class with a cumulative GPA of 3.5 or better, and an ACT score of 28 or above. Applicants enrolling in professional-technical programs must have a cumulative GPA of 2.8 or better.
The Governor's Challenge Scholarship provides annual scholarships to Idaho students who demonstrate a strong commitment to public service and leadership. To qualify, a student must be a resident of Idaho and a current graduating senior of an Idaho high school. Additionally, an applicant must enroll full-time in the fall 2006 semester in an academic or professional-technical program at a participating Idaho college or university, and have a cumulative GPA of 2.8 or above. Academic applicants must take the ACT or SAT.
Schools participating in the Robert R. Lee Promise Scholarships and the Governor's Challenge Scholarship include Boise State University , Idaho State University, University of Idaho , Lewis-Clark State College, College of Southern Idaho , North Idaho College , Eastern Idaho Technical College , Albertson College of Idaho, BYU-Idaho, and Northwest Nazarene University .
The Robert C. Byrd Honors Scholarship is a federally funded, state administered scholarship that recognizes exceptional high school seniors who show promise of continued excellence in the postsecondary educational system. The award is $1,500 per year, renewable for up to four years.
To qualify, students must be a current graduating senior of an Idaho high school or have the equivalent of a certificate of graduation recognized by the state of Idaho and have demonstrated outstanding academic achievement and show promise of continued academic success. Students are selected on the basis of grade point average, Idaho Standards Achievement Test scores, and faculty ratings. Recipients may attend any accredited public or private nonprofit institution of higher education, proprietary institution of higher education, or postsecondary vocational institution.
