MOSCOW -The State Board of Education approved modest increases in student fees and tuition for the 2006-2007 school year.
"The Board is very mindful of our students' ability to pay for higher education," said State Board of Education President Rod Lewis. "The Board carefully evaluated each fee and tuition request by our colleges and universities in correlation with state funding. In recent years our students have carried the burden of substantial increases in student fees. With enhanced state funding, the Board attempted to moderate further increases in tuition and matriculation fees."
Colleges and universities have experienced up to 10 percent student fee increases each year. This year, the Legislature gave higher education a 6.46 percent general fund increase and addressed critical appropriation issues such as funding equity.
The Board approved moderate increases in tuition and matriculation fees and focused on total student fees to ensure fairness among institutions.
Idaho students will pay annual fees as follows: $4,200 at University of Idaho, $4,190 at Idaho State University, $4,154 at Boise State University, $3,897 at Lewis-Clark State College and $1,578 at Eastern Idaho Technical College.
