BOARD CREATES COMMUNITY COLLEGE SUBCOMMITTEE

BOISE - State Board of Education President Laird Stone has appointed a subcommittee of the Board to work hand in hand with the Legislature's Interim Committee on community colleges.

Board members Blake Hall, Rod Lewis and Stone will sit on the subcommittee. The group will explore options for the expansion of community college services throughout the state.

Stone looks forward to having the Board's subcommittee partner with the Legislature's Interim Committee and other interested parties in determining how a network of community colleges could be established in Idaho with appropriate mechanisms and levels of funding.

"The Board strongly believes in the need for community colleges and wants to align its work with the work of the Interim Committee to ensure strong support is developed for community college legislation in the 2007 Legislature," stated Stone.

The State Board actively supported Governor Kempthorne's proposed community college initiative during the 2006 legislative session.
