IDAHO FALLS - The State Board of Education will hold its meeting in Idaho Falls at Eastern Idaho Technical College (EITC) August 10 and August 11 beginning at 8 a.m. The meeting will be held in the John E. Christofferson Building cafeteria. The Board will also meet briefly on August 9 at 4 p.m. to discuss strategic planning in room 331 of EITC.
The Board will address various agenda items in education including financial, academic programs, higher education facilities, and strategic plans of post secondary institutions and state agencies overseen by the Board. Specific agenda items include:
EITC Progress report: The Board holds its meetings throughout the state at college and university campuses. This month's meeting will be at EITC and President Bill Robertson will provide the Board with a progress report.
Approval of Institution and Agency and Strategic Plans and Agency Profiles: The Board, institutions and agencies have worked in conjunction to formulate strategic plans in accordance with Idaho state law.
Review of Eight Year Academic Plans: The State Board initiated greater planning for academic programs by colleges and universities in 2004. Institutions are required to work together to create an eight year plan for programs that will be reviewed every two years.
Idaho Standards Achievement Tests (ISAT) Standard Setting: The Board will review technical aspects of the tests which students in grades two through 10 take twice a year.
University of Idaho: The Board will review a number of issues from the University of Idaho including an events feasibility study to add seats to the Kibbie Dome.
Idaho State University: The Board will hear a Center for Advanced Energy Studies (CAES) update.
FY 2008 Budget Requests: The Board will review budget requests from the colleges and universities, community colleges, and agencies under the Board's direction.
High School Graduation Requirements: After conducting13 forums throughout the state, the State Board of Education will review various plans to increase high school graduation requirements and implementation strategies to help Idaho school districts.
