BOISE — Idaho State Historical Society Trustees named Keith Peterson as the Interim Director of the organization on Monday, November 6. Steve Guerber, the current Executive Director, offered his resignation Friday, November 3, which was accepted by the Trustees.
The Chairman of the Historical Society, Tony Edmondson, said the appointment of Peterson and the resignation of Guerber are effective immediately. Employees were notified of the change on Monday. The Trustees are now in the process of organizing a search for a permanent director.
Peterson has been the Coordinator of the Idaho Lewis and Clark Bicentennial Commemoration since 1999. He has previously served as the Director of the Latah County Historical Society, North Idaho Coordinator for the Idaho Centennial Working Together Project and the Acquisitions Editor at the Washington State University Press. He has a Bachelors in History from Washington State University and Masters in History from the University of Wisconsin-Madison.
“We are very pleased that we have someone of the caliber of Keith Peterson to accept this interim position,” said Edmondson. “Steve’s resignation is a personnel issue. His resignation is not related to the audit being conducted by the State Controller’s Office. We appreciate Steve’s long service to the Historical Society and his passion for preserving Idaho’s history.”
Guerber has served as the Executive Director since 1996.
The Historical Society is governed by seven board members appointed by the State Board of Education. To learn more about the agency go to: http://www.idahohistory.net.
