BOISE — A life long Idahoan and product of the Idaho education system will lead one of Idaho's most unique educational centers. Mary Lorton Dunne was named Director of the Idaho School for the Deaf and the Blind (ISDB), Thursday, February 8, 2007 by State Board of Education President, Laird Stone.
"Mary brings experience and compassion to the Director's position," said Stone during an announcement to ISDB staff Thursday afternoon.
Mary Lorton Dunne is a life long Idahoan, having been born and raised in Cambridge. She earned two degrees from Idaho State University, holding a Bachelor's in Education and a Master's Degree in Education Curriculum and Instruction. Dunne has spent thirty-five (35) years in service at ISDB as a teacher and in the Outreach Program. She has been the Director of the Outreach Program since 1999.
"I'm thrilled to be able to continue my career at ISDB and look forward to working with the staff in making the educational experience for deaf and blind students the best possible", said Dunne.
Dunne's appointment is effective immediately. She takes over for Harvey Lyter who resigned earlier this week as Interim Director of ISDB.
