BOISE — The Idaho State Board of Education voted today to accept proposed contracts to head football coaches at Boise State University, Idaho State University and The University of Idaho.
Headlined by a five (5) year, four point two five (4.25) million dollar agreement between Boise State University and Head Coach Chris Peterson, the Board also approved incentives, if reached, in Peterson’s contract, that could push his compensation over one (1) million dollars per year.
State Board members also unanimously approved football coach contracts for John Zamberlin at Idaho State University and Robb Akey at the University of Idaho. Akey’s contract carries a one (1) million dollar buy-out if he should leave the Moscow campus for other employment before two years, or the end of the 2009 season.
The University of Idaho also asked for and received approval to conduct a feasibility and design study for an expansion and remodel of the Kibbie Dome. Dubbed the Events Pavilion Capital Project, the effort would help rectify the fact the facility does not currently meet state code for fire suppression and adequate egress on the west and east ends.
The study, which is estimated to cost one point six (1.6) million dollars, will be paid for with federal government funds, already designated to the University through their annual Lionel Hampton Jazz Festival. Finished in 1975, the Kibbie Dome at the time did not fall under the jurisdiction of the City of Moscow Fire Department, and there was NO fire marshal for the State of Idaho.
The State Board also authorized the sale of some twenty-eight (28) million dollars in bond necessary to finance the expansion at Bronco Stadium. The Board voted to approve the stadium expansion during its January 2007 meeting.
The next scheduled meeting of the Idaho State Board of Education is set for April 19 & 20, 2007 in Moscow on the campus of the University of Idaho.
