BOARD SETS TUITION AND FEES

(Moscow).  The Idaho State Board of Education has set and approved higher education tuition and fees for the 2007-2008 academic year.

Fees for the individual colleges and universities are as follows, with the amount of increase over fiscal year 2007 (which ends June 30, 2007):

Full Time- Idaho Resident- Undergraduate
University of Idaho: $4,410 for tuition and matriculation fees annually or a 5% increase.
Boise State University: $4,410 for tuition and fees annually or a 6.16% increase.
Idaho State University: $4,400 for tuition and fees annually or a 5.01% increase.
Lewis-Clark State College: $4,092 for tuition and fees annually or a 5.00% increase.
Eastern Idaho Technical College: $1,634 for tuition and fees annually or a 3.5% increase.

Initially, the University of Idaho had asked for a 5.95% increase, Boise State University an 8.09% increase and Idaho State University a 5.49% increase. Lewis-Clark State College requested a 5.0% increase and Eastern Idaho Technical College a 3.5% increase, both of which they were granted.

Boise State University was granted approval to proceed with a land swap with Boise School District #1. The proposal trades two pieces of property between the School District and BSU. Boise State will receive approximately 15 acres of land adjacent to East Junior High School in Boise in exchange for 21 acres in the Barber Valley, near Harris Ranch. It is the intention of the Boise School District to build a new junior high school on the Barber Valley property, while BSU plans to develop the East Junior High property as an athletic facility. The agreement would allow the district to utilize the athletic complex, complete with a track and field and football field similar to the agreement currently used with Bronco Stadium.

State Department of Education K-12
Superintendent Tom Luna also reported on the progress of the State Department of Education through his first 100 days in office. He cited a number of successes, including the appropriation of 99.4% of his proposed K-12 budget by the 2007 Idaho Legislature.

Lapwai School District #341 requested a waiver to hold a special bond election for school facilities construction. The District held a bond election within the past six months, which voters did not approve with the necessary margin. The Board did not approve the request, which would be necessary in order for the District to hold another election within the six month time period.

Members of the Board will reconvene to finish its agenda at 7:30am, Friday, April 20, 2007 in the Clearwater room of the Student Union Building, Idaho Commons, on the campus of the University of Idaho in Moscow, Idaho.
