BOARD APPROVES MULTIPLE PROGRAMS, ELECTS OFFICERS

MOSCOW— The eight members of the Idaho State Board of Education have approved a number of projects related to the educational opportunities and experiences for Idaho students.

The Board authorized several new programs at the University of Idaho. The programs, a Masters of Science and a PhD in Water Resources, will deal with the complexities of water, including the intricacies of policy and social impact. The Board also approved an Executive Masters of Business Administration (EMBA) program for the University of Idaho. The program will be available to students at the Coldwater Creek Campus in Sandpoint, Idaho beginning in the fall of 2007. The EMBA program will also be available at the University of Idaho’s Coeur d’Alene campus starting in the fall of 2008.

Idaho State University was given Board approval to expand its doctorate program in Counselor Education and Counseling with emphases in Mental Health, and Marriage and Family Counseling in the Boise area.

The Board also authorized the University of Idaho to proceed with replacement of the artificial turf in the Kibbie Activity Center, as well as renovation of the athletic training center.

New officers were elected for the 2007-2008 year. Milford Terrell of Boise was elected President, Paul Agidius of Moscow as the new Vice-President and Sue Thilo of Coeur d’Alene as the new Board Secretary.

The Board also paused and observed a moment of silence at precisely 9am PDT to coincide with a service going on in Blacksburg Virginia on the campus of Virginia Tech University at 12pm EDT.  A similar effort was recognized by the Board at the beginning of the board meeting on Thursday, April 19, 2007.
