BOISE— More than 70 Idaho high school seniors will share some $180,000 in scholarship monies. The students, who have been awarded either the Robert R. Lee Promise A Scholarship or the Robert Byrd Scholarship, represent some of the best and brightest that Idaho has to offer.
"I’m thrilled that many of these students are choosing Idaho schools," said Milford Terrell, President of the State Board of Education. "It’s a wonderful combination; Idaho has some of the finest higher education opportunities and there is nothing more rewarding than to see our great young people taking advantage of these opportunities right here in Idaho."
The Robert R. Lee Scholarship was established in honor of Senator Robert Lee from Rexburg who was instrumental in the formation of the program.
The Robert R. Lee Promise Category A Scholarship is offered to Idaho students based on academic or technical merit. There are two categories available to students: academic and professional technical. These $3,000 scholarships, renewable up to four years, are available to Idaho residents enrolled full-time at an Idaho state-funded college or university. Academic students are required to have a 3.5 GPA, while technical students need a 2.8 GPA.
The federally funded Robert C. Byrd Honors Scholarship is awarded on the basis of merit. Its availability is contingent upon continued federal funding. The amount of the award is up to $1,500 per year, and it is renewable for up to four years.
