STATE BOARD HIRES McGEE AS INTERIM DIRECTOR

BOISE— Former State Board of Education member and current education advisor to Governor C.L. "Butch" Otter, Karen McGee has been named the Interim Executive Director of the State Board of Education.

"We’re so fortunate to have someone of Karen’s experience to lead our office," said Board President Milford Terrell.

McGee, who was first appointed to the Board in March 1999, is an audiologist by profession. She holds a bachelor's degree in Speech Pathology/Audiology and a master's in Speech Pathology from Idaho State University. She resigned from the Board in January 2007 to serve as education advisor to Governor C.L. "Butch" Otter.

"I’m looking forward to the challenge!" said McGee, whose hiring is effective immediately. "Education is my passion and I look forward to the challenge of elevating our students in Idaho to even greater heights."

McGee also has an extensive background in local government, having served on the Pocatello City Council for some 14 years.

McGee takes over for Dwight Johnson, who accepted the position of Employment & Training Administrator for the Idaho Department of Labor earlier this month.
