BOARD SELECTS 5 TO LEAD COLLEGE OF WESTERN IDAHO

BOISE— The Idaho State Board of Education announced this morning it has selected five Idahoans to be trustees of the College of Western Idaho. Those trustees are:

  1. Hatch Barrett
  2. Mark Dunham
  3. Jerry Hess
  4. Guy Hurlbutt
  5. M.C. Niland

The trustees will serve through 2008. They will stand for election, should they choose, in the November 2008 General Election. Their terms will be staggered at that point, with the length of terms to be determined by a lot draw.

The State Board will hold a swearing-in cerermony at a future date after which the trustees will begin work on structuring the College in all ways. "These people are people of great character," said Board President Milford Terrell. "We had an incredible number of people who were interested, but I feel we have selected the best five. They have a huge task ahead of them and we stand ready to assist in any way possible."

"I'm humbled by this appointment. We have a lot of work to do but I'm very excited to move forward with all that is involved in developing this Community College," said Hatch Barrett, one of the five selected to be trustees.

The following are brief biographies for each of the trustees:

Hatch Barrett, Boise: President and C.E.O. of Trebar Inc. in Boise, Honorary Director of The Boise State University Foundation, member of IBCEE and The Larry Selland College of Technology Advisory Council.

Mark Dunham, Boise: Vice President of Idaho Association of Commerce and Industry (IACI), Owner-Consultant Envision Real Estate School & Consulting Inc., Former C.E.O. Idaho Association of Realtors.

Jerry Hess, Nampa: Founder, President and C.E.O. of J.M. Hess Construction Inc. Former member State Board of Education, Member of the Board of Directors, Micron Technology Inc., Micron Computers Inc., Micron Construction Inc.

Guy Hurlbutt, Boise: President, Idaho Business Coalition for Education Execellence (IBCEE), Member of the Advisory Board of the Larry Selland College of Technology, Adjunct Professor in School of Business at Northwest Nazarene University, Co-chair of Finance for Community College YES Campaign.

Mary Carol (M.C.) Niland, Nampa: Chairman, Nampa Chamber of Commerce, President & C.E.O. Western Idaho Training Company (WITCO), Co-chair Community College YES Campaign, Member Boise State University Canyon County Advisory Board.

The State Board of Education's next regularly scheduled meeting is set for Thursday, August 9th and Friday August 10th in Twin Falls on the campus of the College of Southern Idaho.
