BOISE— Sixty-five Idaho high school seniors will share $136,500 in scholarship monies. The students, who have been awarded either the Robert R. Lee Promise A Scholarship or the Robert Byrd Scholarship, represent some of the best and brightest that Idaho has to offer.
"This is such a wonderful program," said Milford Terrell, President of the State Board of Education. "To see such talented young people be able to pursue their educational dreams and to have so many choosing to attend Idaho colleges, helps realize our goal of having our best and brightest stay here in Idaho."
The Robert R. Lee Scholarship was established in honor of Senator Robert Lee from Rexburg who was instrumental in the formation of the program.
The Robert R. Lee Promise Category A Scholarship is offered to Idaho students based on academic or technical merit. There are two categories available to students: academic and professional technical. These $3,000 scholarships, renewable up to four years, are available to Idaho residents enrolled full-time at an Idaho state-funded college or university. Academic students are required to have a 3.5 GPA, while technical students need a 2.8 GPA.
The federally funded Robert C. Byrd Honors Scholarship is awarded on the basis of merit. Its availability is contingent upon continued federal funding. The amount of the award is up to $1,500 per year, and it is renewable for up to four years.
