(Boise). The Idaho State Board of Education voted unanimously today to approve the transfer of 100 acres and accompanying building from Boise State University (BSU) to the College of Western Idaho (CWI).
The move effectively completes the final step of the State Board’s duties in helping to complete the establishment of Idaho’s newest community college. The acreage and building are located in Canyon County near the Idaho Center and had served as part of the BSU West Campus. The College of Western Idaho plans to start their initial academic course offerings in January 2009.
“We are so appreciative to the State Board members, staff who labored so tirelessly and of course, Boise State University, for all their work to make this happen,” said CWI Trustee Mark Dunham. “This is a great moment for our students and for education in Idaho. We’re proud to be part of it.”
Board President Milford Terrell presided over the meeting that finalized the transfer. “This was a huge undertaking from the very start,” said Terrell. “Access to affordable education is key, especially in these lean economic times, and having CWI on line now is a great step in the right direction.”
The Idaho State Board of Education’s next regularly scheduled meeting is set for January 26, 2009 in Boise.
