TREASURE VALLEY SCHOOLS EARN PRESTIGIOUS STATE BOARD AWARD

(Nampa). Schools from Nampa, Notus, New Plymouth, Horseshoe Bend and Caldwell were honored and recognized this morning by the Idaho State Board of Education.

The awards were given to schools that showed outstanding growth and improvement on the Idaho Standards Achievement Test (ISAT).

“You’re doing the good tough work, the work that ensures our students are prepared for the next step,” said Milford Terrell, Immediate Past-President of the State Board. “Your dedication and passion shows in your efforts and we truly appreciate all you give to the students and to Idaho.”

Terrell presented Additional Yearly Growth Awards to the following Treasure Valley area schools and their representatives:

  • Notus Elementary School, Notus School District #135 Tyson Carter, Asst. Principal. 1 Additional Yearly Growth Award.
  • New Plymouth Middle School, New Plymouth School District #372, Darrell Brown, Principal, Troy Knapp- 6th grade teacher, Martha Snyder- English/Reading Teacher. 1 Additional Yearly Growth Award.
  • Roosevelt Elementary School, Nampa School District #131 Kory Mereness, Principal. 2 Additional Yearly Growth Awards.
  • Nampa Sr. High School, Nampa School District #131 Pete Koehler, Principal, Byron Holtry, Administrator, Courtney Stauffer, Administrator. 2 Additional Yearly Growth Awards.

Also honored, but not present:

  • Horseshoe Bend Middle-Sr High School, Horseshoe Bend School District #073. 1 Additional Yearly Growth Award.

The Board also honored the following Caldwell Schools last Thursday, October 15th in Lewiston as part of its regular meeting.

  • Sacajawea Elementary School, Caldwell School District #132, Greg Alexander Principal, Roger Quarles, Superintendent- Distinguished School & 2 Additional Yearly Growth awards.
  • Van Buren Elementary School, Caldwell School District #132, LaVaun Dennett, Principal, Roger Quarles, Superintendent. 7 Additional Yearly Growth Awards. (tops in the state)
  • Wilson Elementary School, Caldwell School District #132- Taylor Raney Principal, Roger Quarles, Superintendent. 2 Additional Yearly Growth Awards.

To earn an Additional Yearly Growth Award, a school must make Adequate Yearly Progress (AYP) two consecutive years and show an improvement of at least 10% in one group or subgroup based on grade level tests.

To earn a Distinguished School Award, a school must make Adequate Yearly Progress (AYP) two consecutive years, be in the top 5% of schools who show an improvement of at least 10% in one group or subgroup.

State-wide, four (4) schools earned the Distinguished School Award and fifty-three (53) earned Additional Yearly Growth Awards. To see the complete list of schools and their locations, please click here.

Schools that were unable to attend the award ceremony as part of the regular October State Board of Education meeting in Lewiston on October 15, 2009 are being honored in regional presentations over the coming weeks.
