ISU Presidential Search Advisory Committee

Karen McGee, Chair – State Board of Education Member. Karen McGee was first appointed to the Board in March 1999. She holds a bachelor's degree in Speech Pathology/Audiology and a master's in Speech Pathology from Idaho State University. She currently chairs the Governor's Workforce Development Council and formerly chaired the Governor's Welfare Reform Committee. Ms. McGee was a member of the Pocatello City Council for 14 years.

Laird Stone – State Board of Education Vice President. Laird Stone was appointed to the Board in December 2001. He is a partner in the law firm Stephan, Kvanvig, Stone and Trainor in Twin Falls. Mr. Stone is a Gooding native who graduated from Gooding High School and earned his undergraduate and law degrees from the University of Idaho. He continued his education at the Advocacy College of the Hasting College of Law in San Francisco and the National Association of Criminal Defense Trial College in Houston.

Dr. David Adler – Professor, Department of Political Science, ISU College of Arts and Sciences. Dr. Adler received his Ph.D. in Political Science at Idaho State University and has been with ISU for twenty years. During these twenty years, Dr. Adler has served ISU on the Faculty Senate, Faculty Senate Executive Committee and numerous university councils and committees. Dr. Adler is also a member of several national boards of directors including the Board of Directors for the Presidency Research Group, an arm of the American Political Science Association.

Roger Chase – Mayor of Pocatello. Roger Chase attended Pocatello High School and Idaho State University. Served on the Pocatello City Council from 1990 to 1997 and served as Council President in 1996 and 1997. Mr. Chase has also served in the Idaho State Legislature from 1997 to 2001 on the Revenue & Taxation, Business, Agriculture, and Ways & Means committees. Mr. Chase was also chairman for the Aid for Friends Homeless Shelter, the Chief Foundation, the Heritage Festival, and the Portneuf Aquifer Protection and Reclassification Group. He has also served on various boards for civic and church groups.

Lee Gagner – Former Idaho State Representative of Idaho Falls. Mr. Gagner is a prominent businessman in Idaho Falls, a realtor, builder, and developer. He began his career as a teacher and has been active in education issues. He helped with the Idaho Reading Initiative and previously served on the Legislature's Revenue and Taxation committee and Education committee.

Senator Robert Geddes – President Pro Tem of the Idaho State Senate. Senator Geddes is a Preston native who graduated from Preston High School. He received a Bachelor of Science in Geology from Utah State University. He has chaired the Caribou County Republican Committee and the Snake River Section of the American Institute of Mining Engineers.

Dr. Linda Hatzenbuehler – Dean of Health Sciences, Idaho State University. Dr. Hatzenbuehler received her Bachelor of Arts in Psychology from John Carroll University, Cleveland, Ohio and her Master of Arts and Ph.D. degrees in Clinical Psychology from Kent State University. She has served on various professional organizations, such as, American Psychological Association, Rocky Mountain Psychological Association, and Western Psychological Association. Dr. Hatzenbuehler has also served on various community organizations such as National Association of Mental Health Planning and Advisory Councils (NAMHPAC), Sec-Treasurer, 1999; Idaho Mental Health Planning Council, charter member, Chair 1997-99, and Region VI Mental Health Advisory Board Member.

Matt Hobson – President, Associated Students of Idaho State University. Mr. Hobson is currently a senior at Idaho State University and is enrolled in the Political Science program, College of Arts and Sciences.

Greg Maag – Pharmacist, owner of Maag Prescription & Medical Supply since 1969. Mr. Maag is a native of Pocatello and attended Idaho State University for two years. He received a Bachelor of Science in Pharmacy from the University of Wyoming. Mr. Maag is a member of the Pocatello Rotary Club; Board of Directors, Old Town Pocatello; and various pharmaceutical and civic organizations.

Phil Meador Owner and President of Phil Meador Toyota and Courtesy Ford, Lincoln, Mercury. Mr. Meador received his education degree from the University of Idaho. Since moving to Pocatello in 1977, Mr. Meador has been very active with Idaho State University. A contributor to I LOVE ISU, donating courtesy cars for coaches, member of Bengal Foundation, Quarterback club, Cage club, served on search committee for athletic director, in addition to being an active ISU sports fan and sponsoring many events. Mr. Meador is President of the dealer advertising board for the Northwest Toyota dealers and received the Dealer of the Year award for Idaho. He is past president for the Juniper Hills Country Club and has been a Bannock County Development board member.

Alan Van Orden – Certified Public Accountant, Jordan & Company, Chartered. Mr. Van Orden received his Bachelor of Business Administration from Idaho State University and went on to the University of Illinois where he earned his Master of Accounting Science. Mr. Van Orden was an Assistant Professor of Business Administration at ISU 1966-1969. He has served on the Board of the ISU Foundation since 1997 and on the Board of the Idaho State Civic Symphony since 1989. He has also participated in other search co mmittees for the University. Mr. Van Orden has also served in various community activities such as the United Way, the Salvation Army and the Portneuf Medical Center Foundation. In 1989 he became a charter member of the Centennial Rotary Club.

Kathy Simpson – Battelle Energy Alliance Staff at the Idaho National Laboratory. Ms. Simpson has been with the Idaho National Laboratory for the past 14 years. In her current position under Battelle Energy Alliance, she is affiliated with Infrastructure, Optimization, Integration and Planning; an organization that is evaluating many decades-old INL facilities and associated infrastructure that are in need of being replaced or modernized to support the lab's future work.  Prior to this assignment she supported the previous two site contractors as a manager in public relations and communications. Kathy is a resident of Blackfoot and a graduate of Utah State University.

Valorie Watkins – Former ISU Alumni Director and past chair of the Idaho State University College of Technology Advisory Committee. Ms. Watkins received her Bachelor of Arts degree in French from Idaho State University and spent many years working for Senator Jim McClure and Senator Larry Craig. Prior to her retirement in 2002, she was the Alumni Director for ISU for eight years. She is active in the Pocatello Chamber of Commerce, P.E.O., and Soroptimist in the Pocatello area, and works diligently for higher education in each of these organizations.
