PRESIDENT - Idaho State University

The Idaho State Board of Education invites applications and nominations for the position of President at Idaho State University located in Pocatello, Idaho.

BACKGROUND
Idaho State University (ISU), a Doctoral/Research Intensive institution, is designated by the State Board of Education as the lead institution for education in the health professions and related biological and physical sciences. ISU houses world-class pharmacy, technology and engineering schools including nuclear engineering programs; the university prepares a large percentage of the state's educators; provides a solid grounding in arts, humanities, business, social and physical sciences (including health physics) in support of the professional programs; and provides critical professional technical education for the community. With more than 600 faculty and 14,000 students, the University offers a broad range of degree programs including associate, baccalaureate, master, doctoral (Ph.D., Ed.D., Doctor of Arts), and post-doctoral residency programs. The University also offers academic classes at outreach centers in Idaho Falls , Boise , Coeur d'Alene and Twin Falls , Idaho . ISU maintains strong ties with the Idaho National Laboratory which is located approximately 30 miles east of Idaho Falls on an 890-square-mile area. Southeastern Idaho has a population of over 150,000 and is near some of the best outdoor recreational areas in the world, including Yellowstone National Park, Sun Valley, Grand Teton National Park, Jackson Hole and Salt Lake City.

POSITION AND QUALIFICATIONS
The Board is seeking a strong and committed leader who is able to advance the institution and continue to guide Idaho State University to a higher level of excellence. As the leader, external representative, and chief executive officer of Idaho State University , the president exercises broad responsibilities for all aspects of the academic, financial, student and administrative dimensions of the institution. The president will provide critical leadership in advancing the excellence of the University's programs and services, including significant interaction with the local and regional community, and increasing the level of sponsored research, private gifts and other resources, which will be needed in the years ahead.

The qualified candidate will have a terminal degree (Ph.D., Ed.D., M.D., or J.D.); have held a leadership role in an institution of higher education during his or her career and have successful experience in senior level leadership at a complex, multi-site organization of similar scope and scale. The ideal candidate will have, among other qualities, the following attributes: the academic or related background sufficient to lead an academic research institution; the experience and skills to manage and guide a complex, dynamic university; solid financial management experience; demonstrated experience and leadership in fund raising; the political skills to work effectively with a state legislature, the ability to advocate for Idaho State University at the state and local level and with the Idaho State Board of Education; work collaboratively with the other higher educational institutions in the state; and have a commitment to diversity as well as the economic development for the community and the region.
