Proficiency Level Descriptors

A proficiency level descriptor (PLD) is a description of what students know and are able to do by content area, grade, and level. The bulleted PLDs were adopted by the Board May 30, 2007. The summary paragraphs will appear on the indivdual student reports.

Exemptions for Graduation Requirement (IDAPA 08.02.03)

*Calendar year 2007 is the final year of the 3-year phase in for Graduation Proficiency Scores. Eleventh and 12th grade Students re-testing during 2007 may bank a proficiency by scoring three points below the 10th grade proficient cut score. Phase-in expires Dec 31, 2007; after that date 10th grade proficient cut scores apply for the Graduation Test.

Tenth grade students can bank proficiency by content area beginning in the spring of their 10th grade school year. The measure for proficiency is the cut score for the year they are taking the test.

For 10th, 11th and 12th grade students who pass parts of the Tenth Grade Graduation Test:

• The first opportunity for a student to bank a score is spring of their 10th grade year. Students are able to bank proficiency by content area –not a score or number.
• If students have banked “proficiency” on the 10th grade test in any content area, they do not re-test in that content area on subsequent ISAT Retest opportunities.
• Re-testing 11th and 12th grade students will take the content areas not passed and be evaluated on the Graduation Test with current cut scores.
  Note: Students may NOT bank a numerical score and receive a retroactive proficiency based on a subsequent resetting of cut scores.
• If a student has taken the 10th grade Graduation Test and not scored proficient in one or more content areas, that student will continue to re-take the test in the current form until they pass or meet alternate graduation requirements. We recommend that seniors who have not met proficiency in the fall begin an alternate process for meeting graduation requirements.
